ATM Taskforce – Report on Transparency and Competition
The Taskforce also assessed whether there was the need for further measures to enhance competition and transparency across Australia’s ATM industry. The Taskforce found that the 2009 reforms have been highly successful and that almost all Australians have good access to fee-free ATMs provided by their own bank or financial institution as well as a number of free alternative banking channels. The Government has asked the Taskforce to consult further with the ATM industry on ways to ensure consumers are aware of any ATM fees up-front so that they can quickly move on and find a cheaper option if they don’t wish to pay a fee for convenience.
