Exposure Draft - Petroleum Resource Rent Tax Bill 2011

Date:

Friday, 26 August 2011

Content ID:

2124

Abstract:

On 2 July 2010, the Government announced new taxation arrangements for the resources sector. As part of these arrangements, the Petroleum Resource Rent Tax (PRRT), which currently applies to most offshore petroleum production, will be amended to apply to the North West Shelf project and onshore oil and gas production, including coal seam methane and oil shale from 1 July 2012.

The exposure draft provides the legislative framework for the extension of the PRRT to the North West Shelf project and onshore oil and gas projects. The Explanatory Material (EM) explains, in broad terms, how the extension to the PRRT will be implemented.

The exposure draft and EM are being released today as part of the public consultation process to provide interested parties with an opportunity to comment.
