Exposure Draft Bill for Consultation - TLA (Improvements to Self Assessment) Bill (No. 2)

Thursday, 26 May 2005

Content ID:

On 17 March 2005, the Assistant Treasurer introduced the Tax Laws Amendment (Improvements to Self Assessment) Bill (No. 1) 2005, which included provisions to give effect to the recommendations in the Report on Aspects of Income Tax Self Assessment to reduce the rate of certain interest charges and modify some penalty rules.

The Government is consulting publicly on the remaining recommendations in the Report, with this release consisting of draft provisions to improve the framework for the provision of Tax Office advice. The proposed amendments are aimed at making Tax Office advice more accessible, timely and reliable in a wider range of cases.

Please also consider the consultation letter which outlines some important design issues that may provide additional context on the above measures.

Comment should address the draft provisions and explanatory memorandum on the measures to improve the framework for the provision of Tax Office advice.
